Chet Kincaid

Senior Producer
Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET)

The mission of the Contract Services unit at NET, Nebraska’s PBS Television Station, is to provide educational multimedia support (CDs, DVDs, websites, video) for nonprofit, educational institutions, and state and federal agencies. Currently a senior producer for Contract Services, Chet Kincaid has 34 years of experience in television production, instructional design, scripting, and in the last 13 years, web and other multimedia development. She has a Master’s degree in Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education, Specializing in Second Language Acquisition, as well as undergraduate degrees in Journalism-Broadcasting and Theatre, all from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

In addition to designing and managing educational media for preschool through adult students, Chet also manages Spanish translations for various projects, including the Wonderwise series. Her team received the 2002 National Educational Television Association’s First Place in Instructional Media Product Award for the Wonderwise Vet Detective CD-ROM, co- produced with the University of Nebraska State Museum, aimed at upper elementary students, with video and interactive games, focusing on Tolani Francisco, a Native American veterinarian who works with large mammals (elk, bison, and cattle).

Chet’s hobbies include acting in theatre productions. The photo above is from Enchanted April, where Chet played crotchety Mrs. Graves. A lot of Chet’s work involves creating dramatic or comedic skits to enhance learning.

“When I watch video or listen to a radio newscast, at first I just let the story wash over me. However, if something doesn’t make sense or hits me wrong, I stop to dissect and critique how the media was made, and then I lose the point of the piece. The media creator should always carefully plan before production in order to save the viewer/listener from being distracted later.”
