Anna Walburn

Graduate Student
University of Nebraska Medical Center

Anna Walburn is a graduate student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Public Health with a focus in Epidemiology. Upon completion of her MPH degree, she plans to attend medical school focusing her studies on infectious diseases. She offers her contributions as a Graduate Research Assistant at UNMC’s College of Public Health, Department of Health Promotion, Social and Behavioral Health Sciences.

Anna earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California – Santa Barbara with a major in Global Studies and a minor in Spanish. She fulfilled all of her prerequisites for medical school during this time. Upon completion of her undergraduate education, she joined the Peace Corps as a health volunteer and was stationed in Honduras. There she educated local populations about public health issues, including HIV/AIDS. She spent a great deal of her time working with the local nursing and community health workers on HIV/AIDS prevention and education through meetings, classroom talks and community activities. She also educated health center workers on teaching methods that could be effectively replicated their respective communities.

Anna’s plans to attend medical school mirror her experiences in the Peace Corps and the MPH program. Ultimately, she would like to use her training in both infectious disease and epidemiology to improve the health of populations living in resource-poor settings in developing countries.
