John Lowe
Graduate Student
University of Nebraska Medical Center
John Lowe is a Graduate Student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Public Health, working towards a PhD in Biopreparedness and Epidemiology. Upon completion of his PhD, he plans to work in the field of Biopreparedness Research and Planning. He is currently a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant in Epidemiology and a Graduate Assistant at the Center for Biopreparedness Education.
John received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a major in Biochemistry a minor in Chemistry. During his undergraduate years, John worked with HIV to study the role of glycoproteins and how they contribute to the virus’ fitness and infectivity. As a graduate student at UNL, John began work on the Zambia HIV/HPV project. Here, his key focus was to study the distribution of HPV genotypes among HIV positive and negative individuals.
A doctoral student at UNMC, John’s research focuses on gaseous (ozone/chlorine dioxide) decontamination and the assessment of the emergency plans used by different University Hospitals throughout the nation. In addition to his research contributions, he is a member of the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit Leadership Committee.
