MOUSE:THE VIRUSES ARE MAKING MORE AND MORE OF THEMSELVES!

Strip One

Panel one: CLOSE-UP INSIDE THE POD WITH VIRUSES SURROUNDING.

CAT: CAN’T WE DO SOMETHING?!

PROFESSOR: WE CAN’T… BUT LOOK WHAT’S COMING.

Panel two: CYTOKINES ENTERING THE SCENE, VERY RAMBUNCTIOUS. THEY MAKE NOISES BUT NEVER SPEAK.

PROFESSOR: GRANDMA’S CYTOKINES ARE SOUNDING THE ALARM TO HER IMMUNE SYSTEM.

Panel three: CYTOKINES GRAB A LONE COVID-19 VIRUS THAT IS SNIFFING AT THE POD.

PROFESSOR (IN QUOTES IN AN INFORMATION BOX): “THEY’RE CALLING IN THE T-CELLS

Panel four: CYTOKINES DRAG THE VIRUS OVER TO THE T-CELL AND TELL THE T-CELLS IT IS THERE.

PROFESSOR (IN QUOTES IN AN INFORMATION BOX): “NOW THEY HAVE TO FIND A T-CELL WILLING TO TAKE ACTION.”

PROFESSOR (IN QUOTES IN AN INFORMATION BOX): “T-CELLS CAN BE VERY PICKY.”

Strip Two

Panel one: CYTOKINE HOLD UP THE VIRUS TO THE FIRST T-CELL. T-CELL 1 SAYS NO. CYTOKINES CONTINUE SOUNDING ALARMS.

T-CELL 1: I SPECIALIZE, AND IT’S NOT ON MY LIST.

VIRUS: LEMME GO!

Panel two: CYTOKINE HOLDS THE VIRUS UP TO T-CELL 2. CYTOKINES SOUNDING ALARMS.

T-CELL 2: NOT ON MY HIT LIST EITHER.

VIRUS: GUYS! PLEASE!

Panel three: CYTOKINE HOLDS THE VIRUS UP TO T-CELL 3. CYTOKINES SOUNDING ALARMS.

T-CELL 3: YESSS. THIS ONE’S ALL MINE.

VIRUS: BAD NEWS!

Panel four: T-CELL 3 SUDDENLY SQUASHES THE VIRUS. CYTOKINES JUMP IN SURPRISE.

SFX (NO BALLOON): SPLOOSH

Strip Three

Panel one: T-CELL 3 IS GETTING READY TO GO INTO THE FRAY. CYTOKINES SOUNDING ALARMS, GETTING MORE AND MORE AGITATED.

T-CELL 3: HOW MANY ARE THERE?

T-CELL 3 (IN RESPONSE TO THE CYTOS): MILLIONS AND MILLIONS?

T-CELL 3: I’M ON IT.

Panel two: PROFESSOR AND POD GROUP ARE WATCHING THE GOINGS ON.

PORFESSOR: OH DEAR, THE CYTOS ARE FREAKING OUT.

CAT: IS THAT BAD?

PROFESSOR: CAN BE… IF THEY GET OVEREXCITED.

MOUSE: LOOK THERE!

Panel three: T-CELLS COMING TO THE RESCUE.

PROFESSOR: T-CELLS!

MOUSE: YAY!

PROFESSOR: THEY’RE VICIOUS ASSASSINS!

Panel four: POD LOOKS AT T-CELL ASSASSINS, AND THE CYTOKINES ARE STARTING TO GET OUT OF HAND IN THE DISTANCE.

CAT: ARE THEY GOING TO RESCUE GRANDMA?

PROFESSOR: THEY’LL TRY…

PROFESSOR: …BUT IF THINGS GET OUT OF HAND...

PROFESSOR: …THAT COULD BE VERY BAD.

Title: C’RONA COMIX BY BOB HALL     9/7/2020

THE POD SHOWS CAT, THE PROFESSOR, AND MOUSE. THEY ARE REACTING TO THE T-CELLS ARRIVING.

CAT: OH BOY! T-CELLS

Title panel:  T-CELLS ARRIVING. THERE IS A CLOUD OF CYTOS LEADING THEM. MACROPHAGES ARE CLEANING UP VIRUS DEBRIS.

MOUSE: ARE THEY COMING TO THE RESCUE?

MOUSE: WHAT’S GOING ON?

PROFESSOR: THE MACROPHAGES ARE DOING THEIR THING, AND THE CYTOS HAVE CALLED IN MORE T-CELLS.

Strip One

Panel one: CUT TO THE VIRUSES ON THE DEFENSIVE. A CROWD OF VIRUSES HAVE THEIR KEYS OUT. THE COMMANDER POINTS IN FRONT OF HIM.

PROFESSOR: “THE VIRUSES ARE UNLOCKING GRANDMA’S CELLS…

PROFESSOR: …TO GET INSIDE AND MULTIPLY.”

COMMANDER VIRUS (LOOKING WORRIED): GET BUSY MAKING MORE VIRUSES!

COMMANDER VIRUS: HURRY!

Panel two: A WALL OF GRANDMA’S CELLS. SOME ARE BEING INVADED BY TONS OF VIRUSES WHILE BEING UNLOCKED. THE COMMANDER IS IN THE FOREGROUND. SEE T-CELLS COMING.

COMMANDER VIRUS: DANGER! INCOMING T-CELLS!

Panel three: GRANDMA’S CELLS HOLD OUT A FLAG WITH A PICTURE OF A VIRUS. INDENTED HAND IS VISIBLE.

PROFESSOR: “THE CELLS HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO VIRUS-MAKING FACTORIES AND ARE SIGNALING FOR HELP.”

Strip Two

Panel one: A LINE OF T-CELLS ARE DOING A ‘HAND TOUCH’ WITH THE INFECTED GRANDMA CELLS.

T-CELLS: YOU’RE INFECTED. EXTERMINATE!

Panel two: T-CELLS ARE TASERING GRANDMA’S CELLS.

MOUSE: THEY’RE KILLING OFF GRANDMA’SCELLS.

PROFESSOR: GRANDMA’S INFECTED CELLS NEED TO BE DESTROYED.

Panel three: THE T-CELLS ARE BEING SUCCESSFUL AT DESTROYING THE INFECTED CELLS. WE SEE HER CELLS CRUMBLING.

PROFESSOR: T-CELLS ARE LIKE FIRE FIGHTERS WHO TEAR DOWN BLAZING BUILDINGS SO OTHERS DON’T CATCH FIRE.

Strip Three

Panel one: POD WITH PROFESSOR AND MOUSE AND CAT. THROUGH POD WINDOW THEY SEE THE CYTOKINES GETTING NUTTY.

MOUSE: WHAT’S UP WITH THE CYTOKINES?

PROFESSOR: IF THEY DON’T CALM DOWN, TOO MANY OF GRANDMA’S CELLS WILL GET DESTROYED!

Panels two and three:  TOTAL CHAOS. NOW THE CYTOS GETTING OUT OF CONTROL. THEY’RE ARE CALLING IN MORE AND MORE T-CELLS.

PROFESSOR: HOLD ON TIGHT!  IT’S GOING TO BE A BUMPY RIDE!

Title panel one: SLENDER PANEL. POD IS IN MIDST OF THE CYTOS, WHO ARE CALMING DOWN  BUT STILL CHATTERING.

PROFESSOR: CYTOS ARE CALMING DOWN.

PROFESSOR: FINALLY.

Title panel two: LOOKING PAST THE POD TOWARD B-CELLS SLIDING DOWN ROPES FROM THE TOP. THEY LOOK LIKE PROFESSIONAL CLIMBERS WITH PITONS (Y SHAPPED) HANGING FROM THEIR VESTS.

MOUSE: HEY! WHO ARE THESE GUYS?

PROFESSOR: THERE’S MORE WAYS THAN ONE TO STOP A VIRUS.

PROFESSOR: MACROPHAGEST-CELLS AND NOW… B-CELLS!

Strip One

Panel one: THE B-CELLS HURL THEIR ANTIBODIES.

PROFESSOR (IN BOX): “TOOK THEM A WHILE TO GET HERE, BUT NOW

Panel two:  A VIRUS IS ABOUT TO UNLOCK A LUNG CELL. THERE ARE INCOMING ANTIBODIES.THAT TURN TO JAM, COVERING THE VIRUS KEYS.

VIRUS: HUH?

PROFESSOR(IN BOX): …CHECK OUT THEIR ANTIBODIES!

Panel three: ANTIBODIES FROM THE B-CELLS TURN TO JAM, COVERING THE KEY OF A VIRUS AND THE LOCK IT WAS ABOUT TO OPEN.

PROFESSOR: “ANTIBODIES COVER THE VIRUS KEYS…

VIRUS: HEY! WHAT’S THIS?

PROFESSOR: … AND THE LOCKS ON GRANDMA’S CELLS.”

Strip Two

Panel one: LONG SHOT THE VIRUSES ARE STRATEGICALLY COATED WITH ANTIBODIES AND CELLS ARE BLOCKED. THE B-CELLS CONTINUE TO THROW THEIR ANTIBODIES.

VIRUS COMMANDER: FALL BACK!

VIRUS COMMANDER: TAKE COVER!

Panel two: THE B-CELL AND THE MACROPHAGE.

B-CELL: AND THAT AS THEY SAY, IS THAT!

B-CELL:HEY MAC, GET T’ WORK!

MACROPHAGE: WHY DO I ALWAYS GOTTA CLEAN UP THE MESS?

Panel three: THE MACROPHAGE AT WORK IN THE FOREGROUND. T-CELL AND B-CELL BEHIND.

MACROPHAGE:BURP.

T-CELL: VIRUSES,WE KNOW YOU NOW!

T-CELL AND B-CELL: COME ON… WE ARE READY!

Strip Three

Panel one: THE POD GOING AWAY. THERE WILL BE MULTIPLE IMAGES OF THE POD UNTIL IT DISAPPEARS.

PROFESSOR: CRISIS IS OVER FOR NOW.

PROFESSOR: TIME TO GO HOME.

CAT: CAN WE STOP FOR ICE CREA–

Panel two: CAT, MOUSE, GOAT, BAT AND PROFESSOR STANDING OUTSIDE GRANDMA’S WINDOW. GRANDMA IS A GRAY SILHOUETTE BEHIND THE GLASS SO WE DON’T SEE HER CLEARLY. ARROW POINTS TO VIRUSES IN THE AIR.

CAPTION: TEN DAYS LATER

CAT, PROFESSOR, AND BAT: WELCOME HOME!

MOUSE: GOOD TO HAVE YOU BACK,GRANDMA.

GOAT: YO, GRAMMA.

ARROW: VIRUSES

Panel three: CLOSE-UP OF TWO VIRUSES.

VIRUS 1: DO THEY KNOW SOME OF US ARE STILL AROUND?

VIRUS 2: NAH. WE CAN HANG OUT IN THE AIR FOR A WHILE.

VIRUS 1: AS LONG AS THERE’S NO VACCINE, WE’RE A-OK.
